Domestic abuse - guidance for staff

Domestic abuse can have a profound impact on children, both in the short and long term. If you work with children in families, it’s very important that you are alert to the indicators of domestic abuse.

Providing the right support for adult victims of domestic abuse ultimately supports the child.

Research in the UK focusing on domestic abuse, in particular women’s experiences, has consistently revealed a link between domestic abuse and the physical and/or sexual abuse of children by the same abuser.

Among the initiatives to help young people recovering from domestic abuse is the Cedar Project which is available in South Lanarkshire.
