Level 3-intermediate swimming lessons at South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture

Entry Criteria

Physical

  • Swim 25m on front as defined in curriculum (level 2)
  • Swim 25m on back as defined in curriculum (level 2)
  • Swim breaststroke as defined in curriculum (level 2)
  • Push and glide on front and back
  • Enter and exit water without assistance

Psychological

  • Be part of a class
  • Swim in deep water
  • Participate without adult or 1 - 1 assistance being required
  • Able to learn and understand more advanced techniques and skills

Aims

  • To develop stroke technique to a more advanced level
  • Improve less developed strokes
  • Deep water skills
  • Water safety, basic lifesaving
  • Entry to and exit from deep water

Exit Criteria

  • Swim 50m on front as defined in curriculum
  • Swim 50m on back as defined in curriculum
  • Breaststroke legal technique as defined in curriculum
  • Dolphin movements
  • Beginner diving
  • Retrieve object from pool floor (minimum depth 1.2m)

Curriculum

  • Front Crawl - side breathing technique, alternating kick, alternating pull
  • Back Crawl - body position, alternating kick, alternating pull
  • Breaststroke - feet turn out, simultaneous kick, simultaneous pull, body position
  • Butterfly - Dolphin movement, kick pull
  • Diving - sitting, kneeling, standing (pool permitting)
  • Retrieve deep water objects
  • Basic personal survival techniques floating, treading water etc
  • Basic lifesaving
