Registration requirements
- you must register your food business at least 28 days before opening
- registration applies to any premises used for storing, preparing, selling, or distributing food
- you can register online here:
Types of businesses covered
- restaurants, cafés, takeaways and canteens
- manufacturers, processors and wholesalers
- retail shops, supermarkets, butchers and bakers
- hotels, schools, hospitals, and care homes
- street traders and market stalls
- food brokers and online food businesses
- food businesses operating from domestic premises
- primary producers of food, including dairy farms and fruit and vegetable growers
Approval vs registration
- some businesses handling products of animal origin may require approval instead of registration.

Application process
- once submitted, your business will be added to the council register
- you will receive confirmation by letter
- each food business must be registered separately if you operate more than one
If you do not receive a response within 28 days, contact Environmental Services for an update.
Ongoing responsibilities
- you must notify the council of any changes, such as new ownership
