Underage Sales Initiative

Underage Sales Initiative | South Lanarkshire Council
TitleUnderage Sales Initiative
Council ResourceCommunity and Enterprise
Service AreaCommunity and Enterprise
Aims and ObjectivesOne of trading standards roles is to ensure that age restricted products are not sold to underage young people. This initiative helps to protect the health and well being of young people but also helps to protect the community from acts of anti social behaviour ie misuse of fireworks.
Advice and guidance is provided to retailers and test purchasing programmes are also carried out.
A retailers pack has been produced and distributed to retailers.

ConclusionThe Underage Sales initiative has received partial funding from the Community Safety Partnership in an effort to protect vulnerable young people and to educate South Lanarkshire traders and raise their awareness of the law relating to age restricted products. The conclusion of this initial equality impact assessment is that there are not any adverse impacts on any part of the community covered by equalities legislation, or on community relations. This initiative and the results of monitoring will be reviewed annually. The impact of this initiative will be published in the media, South Lanarkshire website and reported to Community Safety Partnership and council senior management. Monitoring and evaluation of the initiative should highlight whether or not a full impact assessment is required.
