SW Non Core Budget Reductions 2010/2011: Re-provision of Larkhall and District Volunteer Group | South Lanarkshire Council
TitleSW Non Core Budget Reductions 2010/2011: Re-provision of Larkhall and District Volunteer Group
Council ResourceSocial Work
Service AreaSocial Work Resources
Aims and ObjectivesThe Larkhall and District Volunteer Group receive core funding to promote the benefit and welfare of elderly chronically ill or disabled people. Services include befriending, support and volunteer transport.

Following a review of the service, it has been confirmed that the majority of the funding is being redirected to provide a transport service for other vulnerable groups.

It is proposed to provide alternative arrangements for the service users currently accessing the services provided by Larkhall and District Volunteer Group. The group will now re-focus it's work to develop and expand existing lunch club provision in Larkhall and District, including a handy person service.

ConclusionFollowing a review of the Larkhall and District Volunteer Group, it has been proposed that the funding which has supported a range of services including befriending and volunteer transport could support a larger number of service users if redirected into the delivery of alternative services provided by the group, for example lunch clubs and handy person service. All those who currently use the service will be contacted to see if they wish to continue to receive a service in light of this re-focusing.
