Consultation summaryProposal to realign Hunter Primary School and Calderglen High School’s catchment area to re-zone a designated area of Stewartfield to Kirktonholme Primary School and Duncanrig Secondary School.
BackgroundHunter Primary School has part of its catchment area ‘detached’ from the rest (blue line denotes Hunter Primary School’s current catchment areas and the dashed, red line denotes Kirktonholme Primary School’s current catchment area). This apparent ‘anomaly’ was as a result of previous capacity pressures at Kirktonholme Primary School during the development of housing in the Stewartfield area. The children from this area are currently transported to attend Hunter Primary School and Calderglen High School. Dependant on address, the distances from the Stewartfield area are between 2.06 and 3.05 miles to Hunter Primary School and 2.5 and 3.29 miles to Calderglen High School.
Why are we consulting? As there is sufficient capacity within Kirktonholme Primary School and there are potential, future capacity pressures at Hunter Primary School, it is proposed that the area in Stewartfield currently zoned to Hunter Primary School and Calderglen High School be re-aligned to Kirktonholme Primary School and Duncanrig Secondary School. This area currently has 16 pupils attending Hunter Primary School and 34 pupils attending Calderglen High School.
Who are we consultingParents, carers, guardians
How will findings be used? The Council will provide the proposal document to Education Scotland at the start of the consultation period. When the consultation period has ended, the Council will collate all of the written and oral representations. Education Scotland will prepare a report on the educational aspects of the proposal taking account of the above, and in so far that Education Scotland considers them relevant, any written representations made directly to them. Education Scotland may also visit the schools affected by the proposal.
