Review of nursery provision from 475 hours to 600

Review of nursery provision from 475 hours to 600 | South Lanarkshire Council
ConsultationReview of nursery provision from 475 hours to 600
Consultation summarySouth Lanarkshire Council wishes to consult with you over the opportunities and challenges presented by the Scottish Government’s commitment to early learning and childcare through: securing a minimum provision of 600 hours per annum of early learning and childcare for all 3 & 4 year olds; and, eligible 2 year olds; and delivering a range of options to parents to take up this entitlement in a way that suits their and their child’s needs. The Council is seeking your views so that a model of provision can be devised to best meet the needs of our youngest children and their Parents/Carers.
BackgroundSouth Lanarkshire Council currently provides 475 hours per year of preschool education to all 3 & 4 year olds whose parents wish it. From autumn 2014, the Scottish Government is proposing that all councils should offer 600 hours of early learning and childcare to all 3 & 4 year olds. At present the 475 hours is provided as 5 mornings or afternoons or 2.5 days of 2.5 hour sessions during school terms. We want to consult with you as to how this additional 125 hours would be provided.
