9 miles to Lanark

15 miles from Carluke

20 miles from Hamilton

27 miles from East Kilbride

32 miles from Glasgow

Amenities and facilities

There are no local amenities within Douglas Water however the nearby village of Rigside provides a grocers shop with post office, Doctor's surgery, 'The Grove' community flat, a public house and a community hall. There is alo a snack bar and takeaway shop. 

The nearest main shopping area is within the town of Lanark, where there is a range of local and high street shops, supermarkets, restaurants and leisure facilities.

Transport links

Punlic transport to and from Douglas Water is very limited, therefore a car would be of benefit to anyone living in this area. The M74 is located approximately 4 miles from the village providing good access to Glasgow and the South.

Regular bus services operate from Lanark to the outlying villages and to other major towns across South Lanarkshire, Wishaw and Motherwell.

Lanark train station has links to several major towns across South Lanarkshire, Motherwell and Glasgow.

There are no schools in Douglas Water, however there is a primary school and pre-nursery in Rigside. The nearest secondary school is Lanark.
