Book up for ICG legacy
Published: Wednesday, 21 March 2012
The official book and DVD commemorating the hugely successful Lanarkshire International Children's Games 2011 are now available.
With more than 1200 young athletes from 77 cities in 34 countries across the world, together with their coaches, supporters and friends and family, the world's biggest youth sporting event came to Scotland for the first time.
And in the words of ICG President, Torsten Rasch, these were the "Gold Medal Games".
They ran from 3 to 8 August 2011 and were hosted by North and South Lanarkshire Councils, with the support of EventScotland. Not only was it a celebration of sporting achievement in the Games spirit of international fellowship and fair play, but it revealed to the world everything that Lanarkshire has to offer.
And everyone who came to the Games took away with them lasting friendships and special memories, not only of the sporting events and triumphs but of the warmth and hospitality of Lanarkshire and its people.
Hosting the 45th International Children's Games was a defining moment for Lanarkshire so the organisers were determined to create a lasting legacy that would be of real benefit to the young people of Lanarkshire for years to come - a legacy for health, education, voluntary organisations and our environment.
So we hope you enjoy this lasting record of Lanarkshire's Games and will enjoy downloading our commemorative book from our Lanarkshire ICG 2011 website and watching the highlights on our YouTube page.
And to each and every one of you who came to the Lanarkshire 2011 International Children's Games... Haste ye back.
