Employee support and counselling
To improve the way we support South Lanarkshire Council's employees, the council has an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
The council's own Employee Support Team can be contacted at Personnel Services on 01698 455017.
24/7 confidential helpline and Employee Counselling Service
We also have a confidential, independent service that can provide support for employees with:
- Personal or emotional difficulties
- Relationship or family concerns
- Harrassment or bullying
Council employees can phone the Employee Counselling Service helpline on 0800 389 2851 for confidential advice. They can arrange an appointment for counselling by calling 0800 435 768. Meetings generally take place in Glasgow but there are a limited number of appointments available at the council buildings in Almada Street, Hamilton.
Cognitive behavioural therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a clinically proven method of helping people deal with stress, anxiety and other problems by teaching them how to challenge they way they think about things. Your manager should request an appointment for you with the council's doctor or contact the Employee Support team on 01698 455017 to request an appointment. If the Doctor feels CBT would be appropriate, a referral will be made to the Centre for Therapy in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow.
Health Benefits Scheme
Council employees can pay £1.50 each week to join Benenden Healthcare, a not-for-profit mutual organisation. This will entitle them to a range of health benefits such as access to a GP telephone helpline. After six months, other benefits such as help to get fast diagnosis and treatment (up to £1000) apply. Phone 0845 052 5733 for further information.
Other employee services
Other services provided include independent financial advice 'drop in' sessions, physiotherapy, occupational health support and discounted complementary therapies. Check the employee intranet or Personnel Services on 01698 455017 for information.
