Air quality monitoring
Air quality reports tell us how clean the air is. You may find them useful if you have any kind of respiratory disease such as asthma.
We monitor the quality of the air in South Lanarkshire.
We have three automatic continuous monitoring stations measuring PM10 (Particulate Matter less than 10 microns) and NO2 (Nitrogen Dioxide):
- Whirlies Roundabout, East Kilbride
- Main Street , Rutherglen
- Ayr Road , Glespin
The Scottish Government have a free service that you can register with. Once registered you will receive free air quality alerts. Please visit the Scottish air quality site for more information.

Smokeless zones

The major source of pollution these days is from vehicle exhausts. We are looking at what steps we can take to reduce these.
