Fly-posting
Fly-posting
Fly-posting is illegal advertising on public property. You can report it to us and we will remove it.
Fly-posting is when posters or adverts are put up on street furniture, traffic lights, lamp posts or buildings without permission. This is against the law under planning and environmental legislation. It can include small paper notices for local events or services, as well as larger plastic or metal signs that appear more permanent.
Why fly-posting is a problem
Fly-posting can make areas look untidy and neglected. It may also damage the surfaces it is attached to. When left in place, it can attract other issues such as vandalism, littering and fly-tipping. This can affect how safe people feel and may harm local businesses and communities.
What we do
We remove fly-posting from land and property we are responsible for.
- paper and card notices are removed and disposed of straight away
- metal or plastic signs are kept at a local grounds depot for seven days before disposal
If you put up fly-posting, we may charge you for the cost of removing it.
You can report fly-posting in your area and help keep your community clean.
When reporting, try to include:
- the location of the poster
- a description or photo, if possible
- Fly-posting
- Permission to put up posters
