Direct Payments

When it's agreed people need care services, they might choose to purchase and manage their own care services using Direct Payments. We offer this service to people with:

  • physical disabilities
  • learning difficulties
  • sensory impairment
  • mental health issues
  • parents and carers of children with disabilities

Direct payments are most suitable for you if you are willing and able to make the arrangements and manage the help you need yourself.

For example, this may mean that you employ your own care workers - with all responsibilities that an employer has.  We can provide advice on employing a personal assistant to help with your care.

If you are interested in finding out whether Direct Payments would be suitable for you, contact your local social work office for a community care assessment or review.

South Lanarkshire Council has contractual arrangements in place with a range of providers and would seek to operate within existing arrangements.  You can contact the Care Inspectorate who hold a list of all those providers who are approved to operate in South Lanarkshire.
