Fostering and adoption

Foster and adoptive carers have helped give a safe and happy environment for many children who cannot be cared for by their family.

The demand for foster carers has grown and as a result we need even more carers who can provide children the opportunity to enjoy family life.

There is a range of care options for the different needs of children including:

  • temporary foster carers to provide short term respite
  • shared care
  • supported care
  • care for babies and young children
  • care for teenagers
  • permanent foster carers
  • adoptive carers who can make a lifelong commitment

Becoming a foster carer or adopting a child is not for everyone, but it may be for you.

You can watch a short film on the council's YouTube page featuring a couple and their adopted son to give you an insight into what it is like and the positive benefits that giving a child a loving family can provide.
