The main issues report is not a draft version of the South Lanarkshire local development plan; it does not include any draft policies, or contain any proposals for development
Rather, it sets out the options for dealing with the main issues it outlines, and how they might be dealt with.
Its purpose is to allow early comment from interested parties on how we can address key matters before any policies are written or proposals are brought forward.
It is the first published document in the preparation process of a new South Lanarkshire local development plan. It is based both on a comprehensive review of the current local plan, as well as feedback from a series of focused consultation events held in late 2011.
These included workshops with community councils, online surveys, meetings with internal and external stakeholders and consultation groups involving secondary school pupils and Seniors Together. Communities and agents were also asked to submit sites they wanted to be considered for development.
A proposed plan will subsequently be prepared and presented to the Planning Committee around the turn of the year. The finalised version needs to be adopted by 2014.
