Debt Arrangement Scheme
This is a Scottish Government debt management scheme which allows you to repay your debts through a Debt Payment Programme (DPP) which is approved under the Debt Arrangement Scheme regulations.
The DPP lets you pay off your debts over a period of time while protecting you from your creditors taking debt recovery action.
The DPP can last for any reasonable length of time and, if approved, will freeze all interest, fees and charges on the debts included. The debts will be settled if you complete the DPP.
You will make the agreed payments to a payments distributor (nominated by the Scottish Government) who will then distribute the money to the creditors. The creditors are responsible for the payments distributor's fees.
To be considered for the Debt Arrangement Scheme you must:
- live in Scotland
- have approached an approved money advisor for information and advice in relation to your debts - money advisors in our Money Matters Advice Service are approved
- have a reasonable amount of money available (after paying your essential household living costs) to pay your creditors over a reasonable period of time
Applications to the Debt Arrangement Scheme can only be made through an approved money advisor.
