Other useful sources
The National Records of Scotland website has many research guides to start you off on your search for information. These include guides to researching census records, old parish records, school records, valuation rolls and many others. You can search through their online catalogue.
Many of the records are available online through the Scotlandspeople website.
Glasgow City Archives holds an extensive collection of records some of which include records pertaining to the South Lanarkshire area. These include records from the County of Lanark and the Royal Burgh of Rutherglen.
South Lanarkshire's main libraries have large local history and family history collections.
