Safe cycling - adults

Many people are returning to the saddle or giving it a go for the first time as cycling increases in popularity. This may be as a new leisure pursuit or for many as a way of travelling to work.

However, after a period of not cycling, confidence on today's roads may be lacking and bicycle control skills may need improved. Cycle training is an ideal way to regain confidence and get the skills you need to cycle in traffic.

Cycling Scotland offers a range of training aimed at adults including their Commuter Course. Courses are normally delivered to organisations or interest groups, however, one to one bespoke lessons may also be available from Cycling Scotland approved tutors - please contact Cycling Scotland at info@cyclingscotland.org for more information.

If you are returning to cycling, you could refresh your memory and boost your confidence as well as your bike handling skills by having some practise in a quiet lightly trafficked area, such as a local park. Practise your bicycle control, observation, signalling and road positioning skills and perhaps buddy up with a more experienced and proficient cyclist.

Remember that a cycle helmet, highly visible clothing and a roadworthy bike are essential components for safe and sensible cycling on today's roads.
