Training schemes and apprenticeships

Apprentice

If you or someone in your household is an apprentice earning less than £256 a week (earnings limit from 1 April 2024) before tax and National Insurance is deducted and is undertaking training which will lead to a recognised qualification, you may be able to reduce your Council Tax bill by 25% or 50% depending on how many other adults live in the property.

Please note that the earnings limit during the period 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024 was less than £237, and prior to April 2023 was less than £195, before tax and National Insurance are deducted.

You will be required to provide evidence of the apprenticeship with your application. This should be from the apprentice's employer and should confirm the following: 

  • Name of apprentice and date of birth
  • Employer's name and address
  • Course name/certificate or qualification details
  • Course start and end dates
  • Current gross weekly wage and post qualifying weekly wage
