Places in nurseries run by South Lanarkshire Council
South Lanarkshire has a variety of high quality and flexible nursery provision for children from birth to five years.
Parents can apply to the nursery of their choice as there are no catchment areas for nurseries. Please also note that all nurseries are non-denominational, no matter where they are located.
Nurseries offer a range of services to meet the individual needs of children and families.
Nursery classes based in schools and nursery schools cater for children aged 3-5 years. They are open term-time and opening times are generally 8.45am-11.55am and 1pm-4.10pm.
Extra hours can be provided within some nursery schools and classes, however there will be a charge for extra hours. Opening times vary locally and range from 8am to 6pm.
Full day provision during school terms is available within some nurseries that cater for children aged 3-5 years. Opening times vary locally between 8am-6pm. Information on charges is available from the head of the nursery.
The Council is also committed to providing free pre-school education places through entering into partnership with playgroups and private nurseries. A child becomes eligible for a free place in the term after their third birthday and the entitlement is 600 hours over 38 weeks. The normal pattern of attendance is 5 x 3hr 10 minute sessions per week, either morning or afternoon, with no more than 2 x 3hr 10 minute sessions in any one day, with a one hour lunch break.
