Gaelic Medium Education in South Lanarkshire

South Lanarkshire Council is working towards full 3-15 GME provision by the end of June 2024. Currently, early years/primary provision is at Mount Cameron Primary School with secondary provision at Calderglen High School.

Nursery/primary

Mount Cameron Primary School, in East Kilbride, offers GME provision to children from nursery through to Primary 7.

In nursery, and for the first three years of primary school, the children experience total immersion in Gaelic.

From P4, English is gradually introduced, with Gaelic remaining the predominant language of the classroom.

Our GME provision in South Lanarkshire, is based on the Curriculum for Excellence Literacy and Gàidhlig framework, as well as the Statutory Guidance for Gaelic Education.

Secondary

Calderglen High School, in East Kilbride, offers secondary provision for children who have gone through GMPE (Gaelic Medium Primary Education).

For more information, please contact the schools direct.
