Care of gardens scheme
South Lanarkshire Council tenants
If you are a South Lanarkshire Council tenant who meets the qualifying conditions below please complete our online Care of Gardens application form.
The scheme is open to households if you are:
- over the age of 70 with no one else between the age of 16-69 living with you
- on Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Attendance Allowance or Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- registered blind
- in receipt of war disablement pension or benefits through the armed forces compensation scheme
- in possession of a blue badge
If you do not meet the criteria but feel that you are unable to maintain your garden then your application may still be considered. In this instance we may ask you to complete a medical form which will be assessed by the our independent medical advisor.
If you do not qualify we can offer the service at the prices shown below.
Other tenants and home owners
If you live in South Lanarkshire and own your home, are a housing association tenant or rent your property from a private landlord, there is charge for the Care of Gardens Scheme.
The cost for grass cutting and collection (14 cuts a year between April and October), edge strimming as required and the application of weed killer once a year, will be £286.58 (including VAT).
If you also want your hedges cut (if under five feet in height), there will be an additional cost of £87.02 (including VAT) for two cuts a year. Work will be carried out between May and November.
There is also an administration fee of £20.64 (including VAT) – this is a non refundable charge and payment is required on application.
Home owners may request a customised service which will be individually costed.
If you join the scheme after April, you will only be charged for the months you are in the scheme.

There are several ways to pay, but if you have received your Care of Gardens invoice and want to pay now, you can use use our online payments service and choose the 'council invoices' option from the list.
