Greenspace
Greenspace in our area
Greenspaces are the parks, paths and open areas that bring nature into our towns and communities. They give you places to walk, relax, play and connect with the outdoors. We look after a wide range of greenspaces and support local people who want to improve them or get involved.
What counts as greenspace?
Greenspace includes many different types of land, such as:
- parks, gardens and playing fields
- woodland and grassed areas
- children’s play areas and cemeteries
- allotments
- green corridors like walking paths, rivers, canals and old railway lines
- countryside areas linked to towns
- vacant or derelict land that could be improved
Improving greenspaces
We work with partners across the region to improve and protect greenspaces. These projects help make areas safer, more attractive and better for wildlife.
You can find out more about wider projects and plans at the end of this page.
