Your council tax is based on the band of your property (set by the Lanarkshire Valuation Joint Board) and the number of adult residents.
There is only one council tax bill per household whether it is owned, rented or empty.
Water charges are included in your council tax bill. These are set by Scottish Water and collected by us on their behalf. These charges pay for essential water and sewerage services. If you have a septic tank or private water supply, you may be exempt from water or wastewater charges, contact your Benefit and council tax call centre for details.
Council Tax charges for 2013/2014 are unchanged from 2012/2013 but Scottish Water has increased charges for water and wastewater by 2.8%.
You can get more information on Council tax charges and expenditure by reading our Council tax information booklet 2013/14.
The council tax financial year runs from 1 April to 31 March and is payable between April to January in respect of any year (10 monthly instalments).
You can pay your council tax online. To do this you will need:
- Your 9 digit council tax reference number
- Your account name; this is the name on your council tax card or bill
There are a variety of council tax forms available to apply for discounts and exemptions or to advise us of changes in address or circumstances.
If you are moving to South Lanarkshire from another area and would like to register for Council tax with us, or just ask for information, you can use our online Council tax enquiry form.
You cannot currently access your account details online. If you would like to know your council tax account balance, please contact the Benefits and council tax call centre.
