Green tourism award for Council’s Almada Suite
The Almada Suite is the first council premises to achieve The Green Tourism Award. It was successful in achieving a silver award following a very first assessment, which is a great achievement .
The Green Tourism Award has been running since 1997 and is the national sustainable tourism certification scheme for the UK and is the largest and most established scheme of its type across the world. The scheme was originally developed in partnership with Visit Scotland and is the only certification scheme validated by Visit Britain. The scheme has over 2000 accredited members, from major hotel chains to guest houses and national conference centres.
The Almada Suite was assessed on sustainable management practises on 60 measures ranging from management and marketing, social involvement and communication, energy efficiency, water efficiency, purchasing, waste, biodiversity, training, transport, natural and cultural heritage and innovation. Businesses are scored and awarded either at gold, silver or Bronze level.
