Let the school know if your child is absent
Are you sure your child is at school today?
If your child is unable to attend school, please let the school know as early as possible on the first day of absence. When contacting the school, please:
- explain the reason for the absence
- tell us when your child is likely to return
- update the school if the return date changes
Prompt communication helps schools make sure children are safe and properly accounted for.
What will the school do if a child is absent
If the school has not been notified of an absence, staff will take steps to check on the child’s whereabouts. This may include:
- trying to contact a parent or carer using the details held by the school
- contacting the emergency contact provided at the start of term
- if no contact can be made, the headteacher writing to the parent or carer asking them to get in touch
In some circumstances, the school may also seek advice from other agencies to support the child’s welfare.
Keeping your contact details up to date
At the start of term, you are asked to provide:
- a home telephone number
- a mobile telephone number
- emergency contact details
It is important that this information is kept up to date. If any contact details change, please inform the school as soon as possible so we can reach you quickly if needed.
