Temporary closure for Clyde Bridge extended

Published Friday, 14 September 2018

The temporary closure order of Clyde Bridge between Pettinain and Carstairs Junction has had to be extended for up to 18 months.

Please be assured the council is extremely mindful of the inconvenience the closure of this bridge has caused local residents and we acknowledge the sudden nature of the closure was not helpful.

But given the safety concerns in relation to the condition of the bridge unfortunately there was no real option.

Having closed the bridge and established the best possible alternative route for traffic we are now looking at all the options, with our firm intention being to re-establish a crossing point if it is possible to do so and in the quickest possible time.

We are investigating these options as a matter of urgency. Please be assured we will keep local residents advised as the above work is progressed.

Following the emergency closure of the bridge on the C29 to Pettinain on Thursday 30 August a signed diversion has been in place - C29 Pettinain Road, C30 Strawfrank Road, A70, Hyndford Bridge, A73, C27, C29.
