Consumer advice

The Consumer and Trading Standards Service can help you if you are in dispute with a company over goods or services you have purchased. Last year, it dealt with almost 4000 consumer complaints and through a combination of education, arbitration and negotiation, the Service secured over £1,000,000 in redress for South Lanarkshire citizens.

The Service also assisted some consumers to raise civil actions in the Sheriff Courts using the Small Claims Procedure for disputes under £750. (The £750 limit has recently been raised to £3000).

If you have a problem with faulty goods or poor services you have purchased, contact your local Consumer Advice Centre giving them as much information as you can. Businesses will find more information on the Trading Standards page.
