HomeHappening - housing investment programme

South Lanarkshire Council is improving its council houses via the HomeHappening housing programme in conjunction with CCG (Scotland) (Ltd). CCG (Scotland) (Ltd) is a Cambuslang-based building company that has grown into one of the largest construction organisations in Scotland.

Private sector housing - grants, factoring and landlords

Many houses in the private sector need repairs and improvements. A recent Scottish Housing Condition Survey has estimated that 38% of private housing in South Lanarkshire need repairs totalling £400m. This financial year the council has over £6m to assist with repairs and improvements in the private sector.

Rent and Housing Benefit

South Lanarkshire Council has around 25,500 tenants. Many of the rents collected are subsidised by the Department for Work and Pensions through Housing Benefit and we can help tenants with their claim. We also give advice to those who are facing financial difficulty and are having problems paying their rent, as well as giving advice to the tenants of private landlords.

Last year 860 tenants took advantage of their right to buy their council house.

Tenant participation

Tenant participation involves communicating and consulting with tenants and more importantly, taking on board their views and opinions on the issues that affect them.
