Archie Strang has been serving as the Chief Executive Officer since October 2006.

His appointment to the the top post followed on from serving as Depute Chief Executive since March 2002 and Executive Director of Finance and IT Resources from October 1999.

Archie's responsibilities include the development of many of the Council's policies and strategies, including Community Planning, Social Inclusion and Best Value.

Archie joined local government in 1965 as a clerical assistant with Stirling County Council. He trained as an accountant with the University of Stirling and following local government reorganisation in 1975, joined Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles District Council) as Assistant Director of Finance.

He has since worked with Monklands District Council, Falkirk District Council and Stirling District Council before rejoining Monklands as Director of Financial Services in 1989.

He became Head of Accounting and Budgeting at South Lanarkshire in 1996.
