Lanark Memorial HallWork starts this October on the £5.05 million refurbishment of Lanark Memorial Hall. When finished, the historic Royal Burgh will have a multi-purpose community venue, capable of attracting top name performers, complete with a museum exhibition space, function rooms and better access for disabled people. Whether you are a national touring company, a local theatre group, you want to exhibit the work of your photography club, hold your engagement party or book a room for your AGM, you'll be able to do it all - and more - at Lanark Memorial Hall. Moves make way for new Carluke CentrePlans to replace the old community centre, district hall and library in Carluke with a brand new multi-purpose centre equipped to the highest standards have taken an important step forward. The new centre will be at the heart of the £13.8 million development of the new St Athanasius Primary School. To date it is the biggest project in South Lanarkshire's building programme. Since St Athanasius relocated to a temporary home in the old Carluke Primary School in June 2007, other moves can now take place enabling the project to get underway. Donation of LoveFrom 1 April 2007 only 163 people have donated organs in the UK. A total of 488 people have received transplants and some 7,215 people are still waiting on a transplant. Sadly, these figures don't quite tally up do they? You could help, however, by adding to the 23% of people who have said yes to helping others by joining the NHS Organ Donor Register. Two people who have done just that are David and Nicola Wood. David is a technical officer and Nicola is a housing officer, both employees of the council. Ten years ago their eyes met across a crowded Brandon House. Eight years ago their eyes met as they exchanged wedding vows and two years ago they met across the operating theatre when David saved Nicola's life by donating a kidney. |
