The Cambuslang and Rutherglen areas are situated at the north-western tip of South Lanarkshire, bordering Glasgow City.
Cambuslang was once called the "largest village in Scotland" as it had a population of more than 17,000 people, yet no council or provost. Rutherglen is one of Scotland's oldest burghs.
In 1975, Cambuslang and Rutherglen were included in Glasgow District Council's boundaries. Since becoming part of South Lanarkshire in 1996, there has been a lot of investment and renewal in the towns.
