Children and families

A young girl and boy sitting on a roundabout

Most families experience difficulties and stress at some point in their lives. If you are experiencing difficulties in your family situation and would like an appointment, contact your local Social Work office listed on the right or complete a Social work services appointment request (this will open in a new window). In emergencies at weekends and after office hours, phone the Social work emergencies service (this will open in a new window).

If you have concerns that a child is being neglected or abused, please speak to someone about it. You can speak to a health visitor, nursery staff, teacher, family doctor, social worker, police officer or Children's Reporter.

Wherever possible, our aim is to ensure young people can remain with their own families and within their own communities. Our social work and education staff work closely together with other agencies like health, the police and the reporters administration to achieve this. You will find more information on the services available to support children and families below.
