The roles of carers are varied - it could be only for a short time while the person is recovering from an injury or illness or it could be a lifelong role. As a result caring could have an impact on the financial, physical, social, emotional and psychologial wellbeing of the carer.

There are almost 32,000 carers in South Lanarkshire.
- 12,104 carers provide more than 20 hours per week.
- 7827 carers provide more than 50 hours per week.
- 750 are young carers.

There are two key carer organisations supporting carers in South Lanarkshire. South Lanarkshire Carers Network is an organisation run by carers for carers and was set up to give a voice to carers in Lanarkshire. The Princess Royal Trust Lanarkshire Carers Centre provides support to carers across South Lanarkshire.

As a carer you are entitled to a Carers assessment which you can fill out online.
