As well as the UK's largest museum of country life at Kittochside in East Kilbride, there's also the World Heritage Site at New Lanark and the explorer David Livingstone's birthplace in Blantyre.

Biggar has no fewer than five museums and if you'd prefer to visit a castle there are Craignethan and Bothwell Scotland's largest and finest 13th century castle.

South Lanarkshire Council runs many museums and historical buildings including Low Parks Museum, John Hastie Museum, Hunter House Museum, Torrance House and Chatelherault Hunting Lodge.
