All households in South Lanarkshire are responsible for paying council tax. This important source of income ensures that we can provide a wide range of essential services to South Lanarkshire residents.
Council tax is charged on domestic properties dependent on the value of your home whether privately owned or rented. Your home is valued by the Lanarkshire Valuation Joint Board (this link will open in a new window). All the forms for council tax discounts and exemptions are in Council tax forms.
Water charges are included in your council tax bill. These are set by Scottish Water and collected by us on their behalf. These charges pay for essential water and sewerage services. If you have a septic tank or private water supply, you may be exempt from water or wastewater charges, contact your local
Benefit and Revenue office
for details.Your Council tax charges are unchanged from 2009/2010. While water and wastewater charges are unchanged in total, there is a slight variation to the allocation of the charges.
The council tax financial year runs from 1 April to 31 March and is payable between April to January in respect of any year (10 monthly instalments). You cannot currently access your account details online. If you would like to know your council tax account balance, please contact your nearest area office.
A Council tax bill is issued to every household during March. To enquire about having your bill supplied in a different format or language, please contact your Benefit and Revenue office
for details or email counciltax@southlanarkshire.gov.uk.
