There are 26 public libraries, all with activeIT Learning Centres, three mobile libraries, and a home delivery service for the housebound readers in South Lanarkshire.

Our Online library service (this link will open in a new window) allows you to search for books, CDs and DVDs available from South Lanarkshire libraries. If you have a Personal Identification Number (available from your library) and your library borrower number (from your library card), you can also use it to renew books online. You can also join online if you're not already a member.

Archives service for Glasgow City Council, GCA is located within the Mitchell Library in Glasgow. It holds a large number of local government and private collections relating to Glasgow and west and central Scotland. Its catalogues are also available via SCAN.

National Archives of Scotland

NAS is responsible for the collection, preservation and provision of access to Scotland's public and legal records. It also holds a large number of records of private businesses, organisations and individuals. These records, which date from the 12th century onwards are a key resource for Scottish history. The NAS website has an online searchable catalogue and guides to the collections.

National Register of Archives

The National Register of Archives provides details of collections held across the United Kingdom which relate to British history. The NRA provides a searchable database of collections on corporate, family, personal or place name.

NewsUK

NewsUK is an online news resource where you can search a wide range of national newspapers and view newspaper articles. You can also search local news websites. NewsUK could be helpful for school homework and college projects and for anyone interested in keeping up with current events. To access NewsUK you will need your library card barcode number - if you don't have a library card please contact your nearest library.

The official government source of genealogical data for Scotland. Containing nearly 40 million records, it's one of the world's largest resources of genealogical information and one of the largest single information resources on the web.

Scottish Archive Network

SCAN is an online network of local authority, university, religious, business and private archives across Scotland. The site provides access to searchable catalogues of each participating archive including South Lanarkshire Council. SCAN also operates the Scottish Documents and Scottish Handwriting websites.
