Parental involvement and parent councils

Girl reading a book with her mum

We recognise the importance of parents in the education of their child. Parents, carers and family members are the most important influences on children's lives.

Between the ages of five and 16 children spend only 15% of their time in school. Research shows that when parents are involved in their child's learning, children do better at school and throughout life. Parental representation is about helping parents and schools work together as partners in children's learning.

For further information about this service, please use the Education enquiry form.

The presentation slides from the 2009 Parents as Partners Conference are now available from related publications.
