Household waste

Photo:council operator at rear of refuse lorry

We empty bins from more than 144,500 households a week collecting general waste and recyclables on alternate weeks. There is a major drive to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and to achieve set targets we must recycle more. Our next target is to reach 40% by 2010 and we achieved a 37% recycling rate in 2009.

You will find information, forms and publications on all aspects of household waste on this page. If you want more information on recycling or have items you want uplifted, you can phone or email the Land Services helpline or complete an Uplift request online form.
