HomeHappening - housing investment programme

Photo:home happening logo on the side of a van

Homehappening is South Lanarkshire Council's programme to significantly improve the quality of its housing over a six-year period, mainly through the replacement of kitchens and bathrooms right across the local authority area.

This £190 million housing-investment programme was launched after tenants had, in 2003, expressed overwhelming support for the improvement plans. This support was given on the basis that the Council would be able to carry out the major investment works required for its housing to achieve, by 2015, the requirements of the Scottish Housing Quality Standard. The task is to replace 25,000 kitchens and bathrooms by 2012. However, it is not just kitchen and bathroom replacements that is being carried out, vast as that undertaking may be - there are fabric upgrades, environmental improvements and other works programmed into the HomeHappening plan.

So far, nearly 20,000 properties have been completed. This has been achieved with the help of our partners, Cambuslang-based CCG (Scotland) Ltd, who carry out around a third of the kitchen and bathroom installation work, and suppliers Symphony (kitchens) and Graham (bathrooms).

Our comprehensive customer information pack (6MB PDF) (this document will open in a new window) provides details on what's involved in the HomeHappening programme as well as some handy advice for tenants on preparing their home before work begins.
