Private sector housing - Scheme of Assistance, factoring and private renting

Photo: selection of leaflets on private sector grants

We receive funding from the Scottish Government to help us tackle private sector house condition issues in South Lanarkshire. The Scottish House Condition Survey estimates that just over a third (34.9%) of houses in the private sector in South Lanarkshire are in urgent disrepair.

In April 2009, we introduced our HomeImprove Service and an interim Scheme of Assistance to replace our previous system of homeowner repair and improvement grants. This scheme also provides disabled people with assistance to adapt their home to meet their assessed needs.

We factor about 8,500 former 'Right to Buy' homes in the private sector. We provide these factored owners with group building insurance and arrange common repairs. Together with our energy partners we can arrange, in certain circumstances, to have insulation work carried out to some private homes. Some owners and private tenants may qualify for financial assistance to make their home warmer and energy efficient from the energy package scheme provided by the Scottish Government and the fuel utilities.

If you let residential property, you must register as a landlord. For more information please go to the Private landlord registration page.
