Core paths plan consultation
The consultation period ended 31 March 2009 but you can still access information on the plan below.
All comments will be considered and used to help formulate the finalised draft core paths plan. This plan will be available for consultation for a statutory period of 12 weeks prior to consideration for adoption by the Council or Scottish ministers.
Scottish local authorities have to draw up a plan for a system of paths, known as Core Paths which will give the public reasonable access throughout the area.
Our plan covers all urban and rural communities. We recognise the importance of outdoor access (walking, cycling, horseriding and non-motorised water based activities such as canoeing) for both the health and social wellbeing of communities and the economic vitality of the area. The overall plan is divided into three parts. The Core paths plan section one (420KB PDF) (this document will open in a new window)
provides a commentary on the development of the plan and includes the following components:
- its legal status
- the policy context for the development of the Core Paths Plan
- core paths, other paths and the general right of access
- development of the South Lanarkshire Core Paths Plan
- criteria used for selecting routes
- cross-boundary routes
- public consultation
- assessing the sufficiency of the network
- managing and maintaining the network
- strategic environmental assessment
- community paths survey
- network description
- path definitions
The second section includes the Core paths plan map index (976KB PDF) (this document will open in a new window) and the corresponding maps identifying the proposed system of core path routes and how these link to the wider access network. The maps can be viewed individually from related publications page. (Please note the maps do not display in numerical order due to the page set-up).
Core paths water and access points (420KB PDF) (this document will open in a new window). The water access points detailed are currently used by canoeists and other water users.
You can still view reference copies of the plan from Council libraries.
