Building Standards

Phoro:building control officers on a site visit

You will need to get a building warrant before you can carry out most types of building or demolition work.

Always speak to both Planning and Building Standards or you could complete an online Customer services enquiry form. We can tell you about the kinds of permission you might need.

If you want to report a dangerous building, please call the 24 hour control centre.

Here we have:
- building warrant and other application forms
- advice leaflets
- weekly lists of building warrant applications received and decisions

Other notifications
If you are having construction or refurbishment work done, you may also need to notify the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). You may have other duties as well. For further information please visit the HSE website (this link will open in a new window).
