Planning applications

You can find out here how to make a planning application, see recent applications, or how to object to one. With all new building work you may need both planning permission and a building warrant. These deal with quite separate issues.

Visiting us
Our Planning and building standards offices are listed here if you are thinking about dropping in or making an appointment. Alternatively, you can complete a customer services enquiry form to request information.

Apply
Applications can be made using ePlanning Scotland (this link will open in a new window) or the relevant planning application form.

Track
Existing applications and appeals can be tracked using our planning application search (this link will open in a new window). These searches let you view the details behind and the progress of planning applications. Find out how to search for the list of live applications or proposal of application notices with our guide: Search applications - tips. Related documents are also available for viewing at Planning and building standards offices.

Advice
For information on extensions, minor alterations, garages, roofs, demolition and pre-application discussions see our planning advice leaflets. The Scottish Government also has national planning guidance (this link will open in new window).

Other notifications
If you are having construction or refurbishment work done, you may also need to notify the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). You may have other duties as well. For further information please visit the HSE website (this link will open in a new window).
