Young drivers: Pass plus grant scheme

In conjunction with the Community Safety Partnership and Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, we are encouraging newly qualified drivers to take part in the Pass Plus scheme. We are providing a £75 grant towards the cost of the scheme, which is approximately £120.

What is Pass Plus?

Pass Plus lets you build on existing skills and knowledge, gain valuable driving experience and reduce the risk of road traffic collisions. It also entitles you to cheaper car insurance and increases your driving competency - all with no test at the end.

Training is completed with a Pass Plus registered driving instructor and consists of six specially designed sessions. The lessons will give you experience of driving in town, on rural roads, in all weathers, on dual carriageways and motorways and driving in the dark.

How do I apply?

To qualify for the grant you must complete the six modules of the Pass Plus course, live in South Lanarkshire and have passed your driving test within the last 12 months. To obtain a grant you need to apply to our road safety team before starting the course.
Download the Pass plus - grant application form (39KB PDF) (this document will open in a new window).

When do I receive the grant?

After approval of your application you will receive a voucher which you should keep in a safe place. You can then arrange to take the six modules of the course.

When you complete the course you will then be issued with a Pass Plus certificate by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA). Return the voucher to the road safety section with a copy of your official DSA Pass Plus certificate, record of modules and completed evaluation form. We will then send you a cheque for £75.
