Councillor Eddie McAvoy has been re-elected Leader of South Lanarkshire Council following the May 2007 Local Government Elections, a position he has held since May 1999, having previously served as Depute Leader.
He chairs the council's Executive Committee and the South Lanarkshire Community Planning Partnership. He is also a board member of NHS Lanarkshire.
Councillor McAvoy is one of three members representing the Rutherglen Central and North Ward.
Councillor McAvoy has spent a large part of his life campaigning for workers' rights as a full-time Convener for the engineering union at Hoover in Cambuslang. He was chair of Hoover's UK negotiating committee and its UK pensions advisory committee.
As council leader, his focus has been on improving front-line services - and he is particularly interested in services for older people.
Councillor McAvoy's surgery information is contained in the Councillors and committees section of the website.
