Castlefield Primary officially opens
Wednesday 3 October 2007
Pupils, staff and friends of Castlefield Primary School have gathered together to take part in the official opening ceremony of their brand new school.
And the children led the celebration by telling the story of the move from their old building into their brand new school in East Kilbride.
Through a 'photographic diary', the pupils depicted the work undertaken by the council and contractor Bovis and a film showed how the school is building links with Malawi following a visit by P7 teacher Caroline Gibson.
Depute Leader of South Lanarkshire Council, Councillor Michael McCann, who, along with pupil Maisie Duffy, unveiled a plaque to mark the official opening of the school, congratulated the children and staff for their hard work and commitment over the last year in preparing the new school alongside building contractor Bovis.
Councillor McCann complimented the children on their involvement in designing the fantastic wrought iron work which depicts life through flowers and nature and of their creative use of Information Communications Technology (ICT) to tell the story of the journey from the old to the new school.
Andrea Reid, Castlefield's head teacher, said: "Each of our children has the ability to change the world in an individual and special way. Each of our teachers has the ability to change our pupils in an individual and special way.
"At Castlefield we have a community of parents, teachers and children which we hope feels a bit like a family. And like any family we have good days and not so good days, we have successes and sometimes setbacks.
"But every day is a fresh day and a fresh start and we always support each other at Castlefield to dream more, learn more and become more.
"With our new building we now have an environment which gives us the tools to continue to thrive and learn together, collaborate, share and become more capable.
"The children, teachers and parents are what make our school so special and we will continue to thrive in our new school."
