South Lanarkshire Leisure's Outdoor Recreation section is responsible for the operational management and programming of outdoor facilities South Lanarkshire wide.
As well as the hire of courts and pitches,we run water sports programmes, have municipal golf courses and provide a variety of
organised activities within our district parks including tennis, putting, bowling, fun boating activity, camping and caravanning. Our main Outdoor Recreation facilities are highlighted below and information about our numerous outdoor pitches can be accessed using the menu on the left.
Hamilton Palace Sports Grounds
Hamilton Palace Sports Ground is the largest outdoor recreation facility complex in South Lanarkshire. The complex accommodates a wide and varied range of outdoor activities as well as our new indoor training pitch.
James Hamilton Heritage Park includes a 16-acre, man-made loch and water sports centre which is both RYA and BCU accredited for teaching. For more information on James Hamilton Heritage Park
James Hamilton Heritage Park has had to close to all water sports enthusiasts yet again this year due to the return of blue-green algae growing in the pond.
South Lanarkshire Leisure is highly commended as meeting all the right criteria, displaying a high level of commitment to improving health and wellbeing in South Lanarkshire, and, demonstrating very good practices in many areas which could be used as examples to others.
Earlier in the summer season an outbreak of blue-green algae in the loch at James Hamilton Heritage Park, and other inland water areas in Lanarkshire, caused disruption to the season's watersports programme.
In response to customer comments and in an effort to improve our customer service it is our intention to pilot the allocation of the synthetic pitches on an annual basis. The next block booking period will run from 1 October 2010 to 30 September 2011.
