Swimming Development

Swimming is one of the most popular sports in Scotland for all ages. It provides opportunities for learning, fun, relaxation, competition, fitness. Swimming also provides access to all sorts of other water-based activities. Most important of all, the ability to swim can save lives. There are a wide range of activities within each of South Lanarkshire Leisure’s pools giving opportunities for all local residents to be involved in swimming in some shape or form.

Swimming lesson memberships are available at all South Lanarkshire Leisure centres. Some centres also offer lessons for adults. For a descriptions of all the swimming lesson levels, go to the swimming lessons page To book a place, contact your local leisure centre.

A variety of memberships are available that include use of South Lanarkshire Leisure’s swimming pools, ranging from our Fitness membership to our basic Swim membership.

South Lanarkshire Swimming is the competitive name which the six South Lanarkshire based SASA registered clubs compete under at national levels. The clubs also train together and take part in development events for younger swimmers.



The six clubs are:



Coach education

UKCC Level 1 courses for those wishing to become swimming teachers are fun in South Lanarkshire on a regular basis. For further information, call 01698 476117.





Holiday classes

During the holidays, South Lanarkshire Leisure pools offer a wide range of classes covering such skills as: snorkelling, water polo, starts and turns and diving in. Contact your local pool for more information.

Scottish Schools Swimming Finals

The annual Scottish Schools Swimming Championship Finals are taking place at Tollcross Leisure Centre on Saturday 31st January 2009. Swimmers from the most northerly parts of Scotland down to the Borders will be converging on the pool which is the swimming site of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
