To mark Burns’ night a special 'meet the author’ event is being staged later this month.

Catherine Czerkawska will talk about her novel ‘The Jewel’, which examines the complex relationship between Burns’ and his wife and muse, Jean Armour, at Low Parks Museum on Saturday 28 January.

Catherine has researched Jean’s life in depth and discovered an engaging story of a strong-willed and determined young woman, whose role as a wife and mother did not fit easily with that of her romantic, yet philandering, poet husband.

Her novel tells the story from Jean’s perspective, through their early love affair - disapproved of by her father until Burns’ financial status improved – their nine children together, and the tragic deaths of six of them.

So, come along to the museum and learn more about what drove a devoted wife and mother through such tragedy, and how she inspired some of Burns’ best-known works, in a tale that has largely been overlooked by historians.

Tickets for the event which runs from 2-3pm, are priced £4 including refreshments. Tickets are available from the South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture online box office or by calling Hamilton Town House box office on 01698 452299 or Low Parks Museum on 01698 452352.
